SMS stands for Short Message Service. SMS was an accidental success which became very popular in Asian countries by year 2000 - 2001, though the technology is old but it took a long time to be a success because not many Cell Phones and Operators supported it. A new language was developed breaking up English words into pieces. Abbreviations such as "CUL" for See you Later or "Gr8" for Great. SMS by all means is the fastest and easiest way for text communicate with anyone, anywhere, anytime and it's cost effective. Later came ringtones, picture messages & animated text messages, supported by most of Nokia Mobiles. By now SMS was the new revolution and almost every cell phone user was aware of it. In India it really took off when Airtel entered the market and made SMS free for all the new users for 3 months for all prepaid & billing mobile users. With mobiles getting cheaper and prepaid cards available for just Rs. 300, there was a mobile BOOM which took mobile industry by surprise. Millions of Indians now had access mobiles at cheaper rates and hence became popular with the college students, few of them were cought copying in exam with SMS, Still the tecnology has a success of its own.
